FIMT for
Energy & Telco

Fiber in Metal Tubes (FIMT) are essential components in modern cable solutions, enhancing application efficiency by enabling features such as long-distance data transmission and fully distributed fiber optic sensing. As a pioneer in the Austrian market with over 25 years of expertise in fiber optics, NBG offers a broad range of design options and customized products that meet and exceed industry requirements.

OPGW/OPPC

Optical fibers are the backbone of modern telecommunication networks worldwide. The growing demand for data transmission requires rapid and cost-effective expansion. FIMT in central position or in the stranding layer provides optimal mechanical protection for fibers, ensuring a durable and future-ready network infrastructure.

MV/HV/EHV

FIMT has become the global standard for integrating optical fibers into energy cables, enabling long-distance data transmission and fully distributed measurements of temperature, acoustics, and strain, while ensuring complete electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). NBG is the leading supplier of FIMT for energy cables in Europe.

Subsea Telecom Cables

Fiber counts of up to 192 fibers and continuous lengths of up to 50 km without splicing have established NBG as a key supplier for cable manufacturers of repeated and unrepeated submarine cables. Industry-leading attenuation performance and longitudinal water tightness position NBG as a major player in this market.

Umbilicals

FIMT diameters ranging from 1.1 mm to 7.0 mm demonstrate NBG’s design flexibility, ensuring the optimal solution for any umbilical project. Additional layers of polymer or stranded steel wires can be configured according to customer requirements.

Products for Energy & Telco

Our fiber optic products for the energy and telecommunications sectors are manufactured according to customer specifications. The following popular design configurations demonstrate the scope of our production capabilities.

Single layer FIMT

Fiber in Metal Tube, made from stainless steel or nickel alloy, for data transmission and sensing purposes. Fiber configuration and fiber count freely chooseable: SMF and/or MMF, 1 to 192 fibers. Gel filling for longitudinal water tightness.

FIMT with thin wall alu layer

Fiber in Metal Tube with a thin wall alu cladding in 0.25 or 0.30mm wall thickness. Outer diameter, fiber count and type, materials and single lengths freely chooseable.

FIMT with thick wall alu layer

Fiber in Metal Tube with a thick wall alu extrusion in wall thicknesses from 0.95 to 3.0mm. Outer diameter, fiber count and type, materials and single lengths freely chooseable.

Polymer insulated FIMT

Fiber in Metal Tube with additional polymer layer for better protection and integration into bigger cable assemblies. Outer diameter, fiber count and type, materials and single lengths freely chooseable.

Armored FIMT with polymer layer

Fiber in Metal Tube with an additional stranding and polymer layer for higher tensile strenght and better protection and integration into bigger cable assemblies. Outer diameter, fiber count and type, materials and single lengths freely chooseable.

Armored FIMT with double polymer layer

Fiber in Metal Tube with an additional stranding and polymer layers with high tensile strength and good flexibility, ideal for integration into bigger cable assemblies. Outer diameter, fiber count and type, materials and single lengths freely chooseable.
